1/26/26. This is Zeus, a two year old found as a stray, lying on the side of the road after being hit by a car. He is not available at this time. He has some healing to do from his extensive surgery. 1/26/26. (As posted on Facebook) Today, we took in a second boy (Zeus) who was also hit by a car, and we know his background story. It is absolutely heartbreaking.
On Saturday night in Miami, two kind-hearted women were driving when they spotted a pair of eyes in their headlights on the side of the road. As they passed, they realized it was a dog lying there. They immediately turned around and, using caution, were able to get him into their car. He was sweet but clearly in pain with a broken leg.
At the emergency clinic, they discovered he had a microchip. The original owners had given him away to a “trainer” (using that term loosely). Their reason for surrendering him was that he had bitten a child after the father allowed the child to take food directly out of the dog’s bowl while Zeus was eating. We truly cannot make this up.
When the new owner arrived at the clinic, he showed no interest in helping Zeus, so the Good Samaritans paid for the initial visit themselves. After X-rays revealed how serious the injuries were, he took the dog home. Thankfully, they persuaded him to surrender Zeus to a rescue.
It was a blessing they did. When asked why Zeus was so thin, the man replied that because the dog didn’t get exercise, he didn’t feed him much. Zeus is only two years old.
He had been kept in a crate too small for him to even stand, had prong collar scars on his body, and was filthy.
This is exactly what can happen when beloved animals are given away for free without ensuring where they will live or how they will be treated. We are certain this so-called trainer doesn’t show this side on his Instagram or TikTok.
We are disgusted and overwhelmed, but we are determined to give Zeus the life he deserves.
If you are able to help by donating toward his surgery and medical care, we urgently need support. We currently have two boys at Hollywood Animal Hospital.
